I read this book from the library and the story was so good I purchased the book for my daughter who loves dogs. This is a heartwarming story of a beloved dog and his owner making the last few months of his life a time for him to remember. After finding out her dog has a rare heart condition, she takes a leave of absence from her job and seeks to fill Boomer's Bucket List. Leaving Chicago, she decides to drive Route 66 to the Pacific Ocean. Along the way she meets up with a columnist from the Chicago Tribune. He adds to the fun of obtaining Boomer's Bucket List. Of course, there are twists and turns along the way giving a light touch to the story and touching your heart strings. The end is full of hope and have a tissue on hand!
Funny, sad, every day great reading book. Doesn't bounce around from character to character. Will give it to my 10 year old granddaughter to read it. Ahe will love it.
I reread this book for this review, as my original read was a while ago. It was a really good book, well written. I love dog stories, so I enjoyed it.
The emotions of the dog owner were real and what I would have felt. The characters are the type of people most of us have encountered at one time or another. Believable and heartwarming. Keep kleenex handy.

Loved this book. Not many things make me cry, but this one did. Kurt Vonnegut said a good writer is one that seduces you into their dreams. This book did that.
Like the art of Racing in the Rain, the outcome is inevitable. The intention to make Boomer's last days memorable for dog and owner is a great hook. But how to accomplish it? Lack of prior planning could doom the whole adventure after the first day. Enter the Prince of Serendip, a cynical print journalist who gains Boomer's affection, and who is also travelling the Mother Road for his own purposes. A cute first meeting, a second chance encounter, and an inevitable team of three set out to make memories. The usual background machinations go unnoticed until much later, culminating in shouting, suspicion, misdirection and mutual misunderstanding. Boomer is an unassuming hero with a strong presence. One will surely shed many tears despite feeling slightly used by a maudlin premise. Ms. Pethick is a good enough writer to carry it off. If you love a good dog or dog story, Boomer's Bucket List is worth your time.
